PERSPECTIVE

HAPPY THANKSGIVING

"If the only prayer you say in your life is thank you, that would suffice."
                                                         – Meister Eckhardt

I have so much to be grateful for in my life that I’ll spare all you readers a recitation of what is a very long list. Rather, I offer to all my new visitors who are here for the first time as a result of MSN featuring this Space on What’s Your Story? as well as to my blog friends already familiar with him, an appropriately themed poem for the day by my favorite poet. I also posted below a photo from his web site, www.partialsight.com for those desiring a more in-depth look at his work. (Need I say he holds a prominent spot on my Thanksgiving list?)

perspective

home for most feels large,
full of the owned accumulation of a past.
friends, relations orbit
(beloved Moon, uncle Pluto in Baltimore)
exerting tidal forces, streaking the sky according to importance,
the self enjoying Copernican  pride of place.

slip away
like a leaf drops to a stream,
become one bit bobbing anonymous,
bumping against detritus in the flow.

though a few neighbors
note the absence of a single leaf,
the tree still stands.

the discovery
of what one is and needs,
the list so basic essential,
a blueprint
clear uncompromising as thin ice
for building concrete from abstraction –
freedom.

    OK…what a treat.  A triple treat,
    1.  a visit with Jorge
    2.  a new poem from your favourite poet
    3.  a WEBSITE address for your favourite poet.

I mean…really!  Does life get any treatier than this?

When you stopped by the other day to check on how things were doing on the farm (not really a farm at all, but I do call it a farm…)  I had to laugh.  I was sulking away at my computer, blogging about the lack of snow.  I am still pouting.  No snow.  *sigh*  So…that\’s how things are at the farm.

Now…I (of course) loved the poem.  And it surprised a laugh from me.  That bit about Uncle Pluto in Baltimore.

I am beyond sure that you are properly and effusively thankful for all that you have in your life.  Now just stuff yourself to the brim with food and pie so that you can be thankful that all this Thankful Feasting only happens once a year.  Our Thanksgiving was a month ago and I can still viscerally recall each bite…

Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours…

    Alison

I was going to ask for your son\’s web site again.  I enjoyed my visit there nearly nine months ago.  I remember when your space was featured the last time, I voted for you, and I am so happy that they did away with the voting thing.  Thanks so much for checking up on me, yes, busy, but alive and kicking.  Have a wonderful Thanksgiving.
    Blessed be

  4. Cassie says:

  5. Holy says:

I\’m thankful I wake up to Venus twinkling in the twilight hour.  My home has shifted, my walls are different, my state is "altered" in unprovincial ways, but my orientation is still onwards, upwards and out there.  Star bright, star light.

Happy thanksgiving to you and yours & yes, even your fave poet(?) – I\’m guessing you can spend the day together – and may you always carry with you this attitiude of gratitude.

  6. Pamela says:

    Hello Jorge…..
Yes, how could something with onions and garlic not taste good!  Our dinner went well and I hope Thanksgiving for you and yours was equally as splendid. We do have much to be thankful for and I am mindful of those gifts.  Peter\’s poem was beautiful as always. I do occasionally put the pen to paper myself, so I appreciate his words. Very well done.  Be well.  Bittersweet

    Hey J,
Thanks for stopping by, I will finish the travel-log in due time.  I just feel it\’s worth recording.

Loved the poem in your blog.

We had a great Thanksgiving.  We had only 3 friends & my wife & I. I BBQd the turkey on the Weber.  It took about 4-5 hrs to get it done.
Today was my wife\’s b-day so I sprang my present on her last night (a day early).  She had mentioned several times over the years how much she like Degas\’ "Jockeys in the Rain".  I managed to find a nice print & gave her a gift certificate for the local galery to get it framed.  She was thrilled.  It just makes you feel so good inside when you can see that from someone you love.  Just thought I would share this.  It so fulfilling to see that reaction.  The way her face lit up…nothing can replace that.

It was just the best Thanksgiving I had in ears.

  16. Kevin says:

Brilliant poem, I can see why you have taken a liking to P Ferenczi. The word \’brilliant\’ could also be used to described your own blog entries, they never cease to stir wonder and admiration within me. Simple, poignant and ultimately, meaningful, I find I return with bated breath and barely-contained anticipation. Frankly, I am not surprised your blog has been honoured by MSN, it is very well-written indeed.

    Take care,

    Kevin.
