Love Quotes

Like it or not, Valentine’s Day is almost upon us – a time during which we are expected to express our sentiments of caring to those we hold dear. (Actually, this is something we are expected to do year round, but now these expectations are backed up by the full weight of Madison Avenue and all those merchants whose bottom lines are so dependent on our buying their line – i.e. love is best expressed in some material fashion.) As an aid for those who are looking for a low budget source for the expression of their feelings, I offer the following quotations (just don’t forget to deliver them with a nice bouquet of flowers):
"The trick is to love somebody… If you love one person, you see everybody else differently."   – James Baldwin
"Love does not consist in gazing at each other but in looking together in the same direction." – Antoine de  Saint-Exupery
"The most wonderful thing in life is to be delirious and the most wonderful kind of delirium is being in love." – Yevgeny Zamyatin
"Love looks not with eyes, but with mind;
And therefore is wing’d Cupid painted blind."
-William Shakespeare A Midsummer Night’s Dream
"When one is too old for love, one finds great comfort in good dinners."  – Zora Neale Hurston
"I hold it true, whate’er befall;
I feel it, when sorrow most;
‘Tis better to have loved and lost
Than never to have loved at all." – Alfred, Lord Tennyson

    Good Morning, Jorge…I enjoyed reading the quotes and your Madison Avenue observation…many of our special days have probably gotten more attention because of merchant\’s desire to make a profitable living…I had a small gift shop, once, for a short while, during the Christmas season…after the holiday there was hardly any traffic to the shop…lol…but it was great fun…

  2. None of your Beeswax! says:

    Thank you for the beautiful quotes, Jorge! My husband and I feel the same way about all of these profit driven holidays.  We will only buy simple cards on these days then the rest of the year surprise the other with little gifts or love notes.  I know those come from the heart are are not out of obligation due to some man made date on a calender.
    Thanks for letting me use your chocolate post on my blog.  I\’m sorry I didn\’t give you due credit but I don\’t have a clue how the trailback thing works so I added your link into the blog…hope that\’s ok.
    Keep up the stimulating writing!

  3. Marge says:

    I\’m so blessed, Jorge, my beloved makes certain I know I am loved EVERY DAY.

  5. Kathryn says:

    When GM asked, what do you want for Val\’s day–I always say, "Nothing" – I\’m must not a romantic I guess–too cynical–hate all the hype and diamond commericals *ergh*

  6. Michelle says:

    Beautiful love quotes. Thank you for sharing those.
    I think every day is a day to express love by doing thoughtful things… not so much centered on spending a lot of money.
    In 1 week Armando moves here!!!!!! I can barely contain myself. 🙂   (I am trying)
    Happy Valentine\’s Day to you and your love.

  7. Jaime Campbell says:

    I love that.  When I married, the "favors" that I gave out were little bells that the guests could ring when Hubby and I were leaving…I attached a handwritten line of poetry to each bell.  I delved long and deep into many poetry books at the time and discovered many beautiful words.  That\’s what your entry reminds me of.  I still have some of those bells and they always make me smile.
    Peace to you.

  8. the1stephzen says:

    Zora Neale Hurston is the winner as far as I\’m concerned!  So true. I had never read that one.

    Did you through the last one in just because of my last comment Jorge?  I read it, and couldn\’t help but notice the name.  Although I am happy to have found out where that famous saying came from.
    This tuesday I will be celebrating S.A.D.   Or as my friends like to say: the saddest day of the year.  But there will be more to come on that, as I know a blog shall be inspired by the word love.
    Good luck in your "love" preparations :o)

  14. Gayle says:

    Oh, you messenger of thoughts I sought to ignore!  Yes, Valentine\’s Day is upon us and I was of the mind to pretend it was only a Madison Avenue affair.  But that\’s why I enjoy my blogmates, because you each bring the truth, in your own way.
    Thanks for Zora; though for me, it is Lord Tennyson who, as always paints the picture of my past.  My prayer is that the future will be as James B once said:
    "Love takes off masks that we fear we cannot live without and know we cannot live within."

  15. Moon says:

    Hi 🙂
    I had a blogspot blog – stil ldo, but I don\’t post on it–what I hate about it, is it takes so long to post sometimes! And it\’s not as "user friendly" as MSN-at least to me. So, with all MSN\’s problems, I still hesitate to go back to blogspot….
